General Information
The Commission offers both full and
part-time volunteer internships for motivated students at the undergraduate
and graduate levels. Intern applicants
with academic interests in history, journalism, architecture, urban planning,
political science, graphic design, social sciences, and related disciplines
will find meaningful opportunities to work closely with a small staff of
dedicated professionals involved in the planning for a suitable national
presidential memorial in remembrance of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Successful
applicants will be involved in project development, research, writing,
staff meetings, and administrative tasks related to the Commission’s
planning and public engagement objectives. May apply for stipend.
Recent Intern Activities
“My internship at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission was the perfect opportunity. Working on various projects and researching Ike’s life has allowed me to understand not only how great a leader he was, but to see how his lasting presence changed our country for the better. Knowing that I have put my time and energy into such a great cause has left me with an indelible feeling of achievement.”
Andrew Rehwinkel
Georgetown University
My two semester experience at the Eisenhower Memorial Commission was invaluable. I was treated like a co-worker rather than an intern. I sharpened my research and writing skills composing memoranda and papers on issues important to the progress of the Commission. When I left I had a rewarding feeling that when the memorial is open to the American people, I had a hand in creating it.
Christopher Nitti
George Washington University
“In addition to everyday tasks, I conducted a research project involving
comparisons of the leading memorialized presidents to Eisenhower’s
American legacies.”
Brandon Baumbach
George Mason University
“One of my projects was a research and report involving surveying
existing visual recorded media repositories of President Eisenhower to estimate
degradation and remaining time frames for digital conversion.”
Brian Krist
Washington College
“The internship program at the Eisenhower Memorial Commission is a unique and worthwhile experience. The willingness of the staff to help you and offer their guidance is a refreshing approach. Unlike so many other internships, where the mundane is the norm, an intern at the Commission is a valuable contributor.”
